In 2015, we increased whole grain consumption

We did this by introducing more than 200 products that provide at least 8 grams of whole grain per serving.

We also reformulated more than 50 products to increase whole grain by at least 10 percent.

All of our Big G cereals have at least 10 grams of whole grain per serving.

Why does that matter? 

Eating grains, especially whole grains, provides health benefits. 

People who eat whole grains as part of a healthy diet have a reduced risk of some chronic diseases. Grains provide many nutrients that are vital for the health and maintenance of our bodies.

The power of oats

Oats are at the core of General Mills’ business. 

Our company has brought the power of oats to consumers since 1941, when we introduced Cheerioats – the first ready-to-eat cereal made from oats. 

We believe in the goodness of oats. They are nutrient-dense, affordable, naturally gluten-free and come in convenient forms. 

Oats are unique in many ways:

  • They have the highest concentrations of protein among common varieties of whole grains, more soluble fiber than most other whole grains, are a top source of the soluble fiber, beta-glucan, and contain unique antioxidants. 
  • Oats naturally taste good and, when roasted, develop a nutty oat flavor. 
  • Oats are a sustainable crop – oats are a hardy grain that require little water to grow.
